Canister Vacuum Cleaners-A Definition

Canister vacuum cleaners differ from upright vacuums in their design, and they also differ somewhat in their functions and abilities.  While an upright vacuum gets its name from its upright design, the canister vacuum is lower to the ground and more tubular.  In addition, the canister has some different features and benefits, as well as drawbacks, when compared with the upright vacuum cleaner.  Canister vacuums work exceptionally well for the cleaning of stairs, hardwood floors, draperies, carpets, and ceilings.  However, most of them do not work very well on large areas of wall-to-wall carpet, because they are not designed for that particular purpose.  Most canister vacuums also have many different attachments and come with long hoses that can be used to reach each and every corner of a home, making them a very versatile cleaning tool for homes and businesses that do not have wall-to-wall carpet.  In addition to the functions of these types of vacuums, there are many different companies that make canister vacuums.  Many people think that canister vacuums are old-fashioned and that they are no longer in use, but this is simply not the case.  Some of the largest manufacturers of vacuums today still make current and up-to-date models of canister vacuums for consumers and businesses to purchase.  Among these top brands of canister vacuums are Hoover, Oreck Vacuums, Dirt Devil, Bissell, Eureka, and Electrolux, as well as many others, and models can be purchased for as little as $70.00.  This makes them very comparable in price to many of the upright vacuum cleaners on the market today.

Not everyone needs a canister vacuum, but there are some individuals and businesses that could strongly benefit from owning one.  Homes and business that have only wall-to-wall carpeting, however, would not be a good candidate for a canister vacuum because they do not perform as well for this purpose as the standard upright vacuum.  However, if the carpet is very thin or short-napped, such as some of the indoor/outdoor varieties or industrial grades that are available today, a canister vacuum would still likely work well for this purpose.  A better choice for a canister vacuum, however, would be the home or business that has loose carpets or area rugs, draperies, stairs, and hardwood or another type of harder flooring.  Canister vacuum cleaners work well on all of these things and they are the best choice when it comes to draperies especially.  The long hoses and attachments that canister vacuums have are ideal for draperies because the consumer can reach everything that needs to be vacuumed and cleaned without being required to lift a heavy vacuum off of the floor or twist into some uncomfortable position in the vain hope of getting the vacuum nozzle to the outlying areas of the object being cleaned.

Upright vacuums often have much shorter hoses and do not allow for this type of cleaning.  Another area where canister vacuum cleaners are very beneficial is on staircases.  With such long hoses the canister vacuum can be left at the bottom of the staircase while the consumer uses only the lightweight and flexible hose to move almost effortlessly up to the top of the staircase.  This is very helpful for those that cannot lift heavier, upright vacuums or those that simply do not want the hassle of attempting to carry such a cumbersome piece of equipment up a staircase.  Injuries and accidents can also occur with upright vacuums falling on the stairs and hitting the consumer or others in the household, making the canister vacuum not only an easier choice but a safer one as well
