Steam Vacuum Cleaners

Many consumers enjoy the benefits of steam vacuum cleaners.  However, sometimes the word ‘steam’ vacuum can be somewhat misleading.  Most of the vacuum cleaners that claim to be steam vacuum cleaners are actually designed to work with hot water only.  There is no steam, which means that they do not clean in the same way that a professional steam cleaner would.  However, this does not mean that they do not clean well.  Two of the most popular brands with consumers seem to be Bissell and Hoover, although there are other brands as well.  Most of these cleaners cost between $150 and $350 depending on which model is purchased and what comes with it, which most consumers consider to be reasonable for the work that the cleaners perform, although there have been consumer disagreements on whether these machines are priced more highly than they actually should be.

While these are marketed as steam cleaners they actually have tanks that are either filled with water and then heated by the machine, or filled by the consumer with hot water.  This will not produce actual steam, and in some instances the hot water is used to help dry the carpet as air from the motor is blown across it.  The tanks can be heavy and cumbersome, and those that have trouble lifting and carrying objects would likely not want to purchase one of these steam cleaners.  The location of the tanks is also important for consumers.  Some of these steam vacuum cleaners have tanks that are essentially underneath the machine, while others have them on the lower part of the handle.  There are many different designs that are available for these types of cleaners, and the location of tanks and other apparatus are largely left up to consumer preference.  Carrying heavy tanks of dirty water, however, is not something that all consumers want to do or that all consumers can do.  Some models of these machines are difficult to operate and they weigh much more than a standard vacuum cleaner.  Because of this some consumers simply opt to have the carpets in their homes professionally cleaned so that they do not have to worry about trying to do it by themselves.

Despite some of the problems that consumers find with these cumbersome machines they are not as heavy or as difficult to use as earlier models were.  The steam vacuum cleaners of today are made as light as they can be for what they do, and they are much more user-friendly than older machines that performed the same basic function.  The deep cleaning they provide is also a bonus for many homeowners that use a regular vacuum cleaner and then go back over their carpet with a steam vacuum cleaner to collect the rest of the debris, hair, pollen, dust, and other dirt that their standard vacuum cleaner failed to pick up.  Most consumers are amazed by how much is still left in their carpets after standard vacuuming but they do not realize this until they use a steam vacuum cleaner and discover how dirty the water becomes.  The tanks on these machines have to be emptied quite often, and the cleaning fluid that they use can be expensive and used up quite quickly.  Despite these issues, however, there are many benefits that consumers can receive from purchasing and using a steam vacuum cleaner.
